Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Meters
The EMF meter is one of the most common tools used in paranormal investigations. When used properly, it locates electromagnetic radiation, giving the user a reading, so they can record how high the EMF levels are in the investigated area.
KPI uses the following EMF meters: AlphaLab TriField Natural EM Meter, ExTech 480823, Gauss Master, K2, ElectroSensor
Did you know! - High levels of electromagnetic radiation can cause a multitude of bad symptoms, as well as be dangerous? More information on EMF, here!
Thermometers
There are a wide variety of thermometers used in paranormal investigation. Examples of these are non contact, infrared thermometers, thermo couples, data loggers, etc. Non contact, infrared thermometers, when used properly, can take surface temperatures at a distance. Thermo couples and data loggers can keep track of rapid, ambient temperature fluctuations. A thermo couple is a portable unit, that offers a digital read out and is easy to use. A data logger is a small device, left in a room to record, that can later be connected to a PC so that the recorded data can be uploaded and layed out on a graph.
KPI uses the following thermometers: TIF ET7000, CenTech 93984
Did you know! - Non contact, infrared thermometers are not capable of taking ambient temperature readings? More information on infrared thermometers, here!
Cameras
Another common tool that is, perhaps, overly used in the investigation process, is the camera. A hefty number of teams involved in paranormal investigation use digital cameras when documenting their investigations. Fewer teams employ both film cameras and digital cameras during their time investigating. When used properly, a camera can be a significant asset to an investigation, both helping document the investigation, documenting possible sources of reported phenomena, and possibly catching an image of something "paranormal."
KPI uses the following cameras: Canon 40D, Sony DSC-W80, Canon A540, Canon Rebel T2
Did you know! - The majority of "orb" photographs are nothing more than dust, bugs, hair, dew, pollen, and many other logical and environmental factors? More information on cameras and "orbs," here!
Video Cameras
One of the most important tools an investigator can use during an investigation is some form of video recording device. This helps keep a log of all activity that takes place during an investigation, as well as offers a form of visual verification for any activity that may happen. Many types of video recording devices are used in the paranormal field, from standard VHS video cameras, to hard drive video cameras, to DVR systems.
KPI uses the following video recorders: Sony DCR-SR45 HDD, Sony CCD-TRV138 Hi-8, Sony CCD-TRV57
Did you know! - "Orbs" captured on video are no different than those caught in photographs? More information on "orbs," here!
Audio Recorders
Another great tool used in most investigations is the audio recorder. These handy little devices are great for interviewing clients/witnesses, citing important details during the investigation, and also attempting to catch electronic voice phenomena (EVP). There are a wide variety of brands and several types of audio recorders, from Olympus to Sony, and digital to micro cassette.
KPI uses the following audio recorders: Sony ICD-P520, Olympus WS-110, Olympus VN-3100PC
Did you know! - Some audio recorders are capable of picking up stray radio transmissions? More information on EVPs and eliminating stray frequencies, here!
Additional Equipment
There are still a great many pieces of additional equipment one can use during these investigations. The following is a listing of additional equipment often used or recommended during paranormal investigations, as well as links to more information on the equipment.
Geiger Counters - Used to detect radiation levels
Ion Counters - Used to detect natural and artificial ions
Anemometer - Used to determine wind speed
Weather Stations - Used to gather various types of atmospheric data
Data Logger - Used to gather various types of atmospheric data, and easy to upload to a PC
KPI uses the following additional equipment: La Crosse WS-2317U, MA-Line MA-16540
